Bloom's Blog

Blooms_blog

I'm bursting with pride on behalf of Bloom and its blog, which has just made Design Week's Best Design Blogs roundup.  Even though it's nothing to do with me any more.  If there was ever an agency that was made to blog it was Bloom: interesting and charming from the inside out.

Watchification

I'm really excited to be involved in this.  It's a different kind of blogging for me, mainly because it's actually about something, and also because it's with other people (all of whom I've admired from various web distances for a while).  Steve explains it all here, but we basically point at good bits of telly which you can watch right there and then.  (Yep, it's tough.)

one!

One

My blog is 1 today.  As of about 2pm if I remember right (if you follow my family rules you always have to caveat birthdays with the actual time of birth).  It's been a big old year, for all sorts of reasons.  Which, like every other post in my head at the moment, is going to have to wait for a quieter 10 minutes sometime soon.  Lauren pointed out recently at Helen's blog's first birthday how nice it is we're all celebrating at more or less the same time.  It's like a nursery school of blogs.

So.  What's the equivalent of blog cake?  (And do you think we'll all grow up this year, as we slowly become 2?)

Now I didn't know if I could put these up, but seeing as Ben's put the real thing up I thought perhaps I could.  This is the behind the scenes version.  The making of a winner.  I also have a nice shot of Ben doing his thing, but since I can't do fancy things with pixels I won't put it up.

hello Japan

Screen_2

I hadn't looked at my stats for ages, before this morning.  I decided a while ago it spoils things.  Anyway, for some reason I had a look today and got a big old shock in the shape of this picture.

As you can see things are pretty much back to business as usual now...but mid last week, thousands of people from Japan came visiting, directed by this article, which with no Japanese I can't read, sadly.  But obviously it's all about Benedict Radcliffe and his show.  How exciting.  (Ben, I think a trip might be in order.)

masterchef blog

Steve

I've had the pleasure of working with Steve Wallis recently, who as well as finding fame as one of the current semi finalists of Masterchef, is also a very brilliant visual planner/creative/planner hybrid for his day job.  I only just found out that he has a blog.  And it's about food (shockingly), which makes a very nice change.

Some lovely recipes on there.

After we all pretty much failed to get something together and meet after the AGP Jon Steel extravaganza, I thought I'd make my official function attendence public so we can look out for each other. I'll be going to The Future Marketing Summit , and this, this, this and this.

So if anyone else if planning to be at any of thee, let me know. Always nice to see friendly faces at these things.

i'm in a chart

Scamp

That scamp...Scamp has made my day.  I know I probably shouldn't be (and I'm surprised that I am), but I LOVE being in this chart.  In any chart really.  Probably because just like Scamp I love charts and countdowns.

I don't agree with the fact that I'm there at all, and I'm not sure how it's worked out.  And I never did think of this as an Ad Blog.

But I still love that I'm in a chart.

coffee. and bad hosting

Coffee

Coffee morning got off to what can only be called a bad start this week.  In fact that's not strictly true.  I'm sure it got off to a fine start.  Without me.  When I arrived at the Breakfast Club - early, in my defence - The Table was already occupied.  By people not looking even vaguely like they might be there for coffee morning purposes.  (Just something about the ties.)  The only space I could find was right at the back and after scouring the place, I sat and waited on a stool.  By myself.  Occasionally checking the door for arrivals.  It's absolutely conceivable, I started to think, that no one at all will show up.  I'm not Russell.  I'm a muppet.  I didn't bring any friends.  But I had had an email from at least one person saying they were coming.  But what did she look like?  (Muppet or human?)

After what could only have been a 5 minute stint buried in my book (tops) I poked my head round the corner again to find The Table now full of people who absolutely looked like they could be here for the same reason as me.  So I sheepishly joined in.  Bad, bad hosting.

(Worse still, I managed to scare off the one lone non-coffee morninger minding his own business with a bacon sandwich, just by asking if I could sit by him.  I feel bad about this.  Sorry Bacon Sandwich Anonymous.  (Bad, bad hosting.))

By this point I would gladly have welcomed a kick in the teeth.  Just as a distraction.  But you'll be glad to hear that the only way was up.  It was mightily gladdening to see Daniele + Fabio, creative masterminds and alter egos behind Blue and Joy, bearing gifts (of which more shortly).

And Henry + Mark.

We talked about generalism and specialism, how grad schemes are whack, Amnesty, crunchometers, and small worlds (turns out Jaimini had recently used one of Mark's brilliant podcasts to great effect at a recent presentation for her Watford course.)

Very pleasant indeed.

Thanks for coming everyone.  (And sorry about the bad, bad hosting.)

I'm babysitting coffee morning this Friday. Same place (Breakfast Club). Same time (11am). Be very nice to see anyone who can make it. I don't have badges, and I'm not Russell. But I'm alright.
