Delighting with data

More beautiful data

Tom_taylor_delighting_with_data

I just found this talk from Tom Taylor.  It's the best thing I've read in ages.  That's it really.

Apart from the fact that I really think I need one of these things you can hook up to your plants so they tweet you when they need watering. (The plants that have died at my hands are many, many.)

Norwegian Wordle

More Ibsen.  Since I found Wordle here earlier I can't stop playing with it.

Here's Terje Vigen in English.

And in Norwegian for good measure.

I think I'm going to be using Wordle a lot.

From here.  Not only is this crack for the average Twitter user, it's another lovely example of interesting/beautiful data.  I'm quite happy with my word patterns on the whole (even if they do border on the wistful).  Not so much about Pitch.

But I'm VERY happy with the 2 word phrase thingy option.  That throws up all sorts of gems.  Rinky Dink, Balkan Dance, John Martyn, Holloway Road - the stuff life is made of, in other words.

dopplr's raumzeitgeist

Where_we_went_last_year

One of my favourite places to be in webland, Dopplr, has just emerged from its beta chrysalis into a fully revved butterfly with lots of lovely features.   Their newsletters are the best I get (mostly to do with the way they're written.  Of course.) and the most recent one sent a link to the Raumzeitgeist image above: a map of where Dopplr travellers travelled last year.

Quite impressive really.  Especially as I think my only contribution was Brighton.  But I'm glad to be part of such a beautiful map.
